On November 17, 2021, Paul Taylor from South Island Resource Recovery Limited (SIRRL) and Renew Energy Limited emailed Andrew Dixon and Michelle Heal from Timaru District Council a heads of agreement. This was about the potential storage of 50,000 tons of baled waste to be used as fuel in a future waste-to-energy plant in Waimate.
